Privacy Policy
This policy explains how HalloVelo handles information when you plan and navigate bicycle rides.
1. Controller and contact
2. Information the app processes
- Location and ride data: precise location, direction, altitude and speed are used to choose endpoints, follow route progress, recalculate routes, provide navigation and learn a personal cycling-speed profile. With permission, location is used in the background only during active navigation; background updates stop when navigation ends.
- Service requests: Veloland and Mountainbikeland network routing runs on your device using bundled network data. Place searches and short cycling route sections used for connectors and guidance are sent to Apple Maps. Coordinates and route geometry needed for network matching, elevation, surface, street-name and disruption data are sent to Swiss federal geo.admin.ch services.
- External route handoff: if no suitable route is found, the selected endpoints are passed to Apple Maps or Google Maps only when you explicitly choose that option. When the start is My Location, the external maps app is asked to use your current location rather than receiving a fixed start coordinate from HalloVelo.
- Official disruption data: the app periodically downloads nationwide Veloland and Mountainbikeland closure and detour files from geo.admin.ch and caches them on your device. These downloads do not include your location or route.
- On-device information: recent and pinned places, preferences and learned cycling speeds by gradient are stored locally. During navigation, ActivityKit can also display the current instruction and route status in a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. HalloVelo does not use remote push updates for the Live Activity.
- Feedback and support: when you submit feedback, HalloVelo prepares an email in your email app. You can preview and exclude the diagnostic attachment and choose whether we may reply. If included, diagnostics can contain the affected route and selected location, app, device and settings information, and up to one minute of recent navigation samples. For ETA reports, diagnostics can also contain the exact route grade samples and only the aggregate learned speed factors, confidence values and stop-delay estimate actually used for that route. They exclude unrelated rides, raw ride samples, recent searches, pinned places and the complete learned speed profile. You can also attach a photo. Nothing is sent until you choose Send in your email app.
3. Why this information is used
It is used only to provide search, Veloland and Mountainbikeland route planning, elevation and surface information, disruption-aware routing, turn-by-turn navigation, personal arrival-time estimates, Live Activities, settings and support.
4. Services and recipients
HalloVelo has no developer-operated backend or location-history server. Place searches and connector or guidance requests may be processed by Apple Maps. Coordinates and route geometry needed for app functionality are requested from Swiss federal geodata services; nationwide official closure and detour files are downloaded separately without location or route parameters. See the geo.admin.ch terms. Google Maps receives route endpoints only after an explicit handoff. If you contact us, your email provider and ours process the message. These providers process information under their own terms and applicable law and may process it outside Switzerland or the EEA as described in their policies.
5. No tracking or sale
HalloVelo has no account, advertising or third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell personal information or use it to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
6. Retention and deletion
Recent and pinned places, preferences and learned speeds remain on your device until you clear or reset them in Settings, delete the app, or iOS removes its data. HalloVelo does not retain your location history, navigation session or Live Activity data on a developer-operated server. Support messages are kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request and meet legal obligations. Apple, Google and geo.admin.ch determine retention for information they process.
7. Your choices and rights
You can change location access in iOS Settings, clear recent or pinned places, reset learned ride data and reset app settings. Removing location permission limits route planning from your position and live navigation. You may ask us for access, correction or deletion of personal information held by us by emailing the address above. You may also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
8. Security, children and changes
HalloVelo relies on iOS protections and sends service requests over encrypted network connections. The app is not designed to collect information from children and does not require an account. We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change; the date above identifies the current version.
