Include your device model, iOS or iPadOS version, Prompt22 version and build number, what you expected, and the steps that caused the problem. A screenshot or the exact error message can help. Never send passwords or private SSH keys; redact sensitive server details and terminal output.

Connecting to a server

Add a host with its address, SSH port and username. Choose an SSH identity if you use key authentication, and install its public key on the server. Tap the host to connect; touch and hold it for more actions, including editing and SFTP.

If a connection fails, check the address and port, network or VPN access, and the server’s SSH configuration. For key authentication, confirm that the selected public key is authorized for the correct remote user. If a trusted host key changes, verify the new fingerprint with the server administrator before accepting it.

Sessions and backgrounding

Prompt22 saves session details and terminal scrollback locally, but closing the app does not preserve a live SSH connection. iOS may also suspend network connections while the app is in the background. Reconnect when needed. For long-running terminal work, use a server-side session manager such as tmux or screen so the work can survive a disconnected phone.

Change the amount of saved history in Settings → Terminal. Closing a session removes its saved history.

Uploads, downloads and Files

Open an SFTP session from a host’s context menu and browse to the remote folder. Choose Upload Files from the ellipsis menu to select one or more regular files in Files. Uploads go to the current remote folder and do not overwrite existing files. Folders, symbolic links and special files cannot be uploaded.

To download, open a remote file’s menu and choose Download. The Transfers manager shows uploads and downloads together, with filenames, direction, progress, rate, estimated remaining time and swipe cancellation. Multiple transfers can run together.

Choose the default download destination in Settings → Downloads. Completed downloads offer Show in Files. Removing a completed or failed transfer from the manager only removes its entry; it does not delete the saved local or remote file.

Background transfers depend on iOS granting execution time. If Prompt22 asks you to keep the app open, leave it in the foreground until the transfer finishes. Transfers may stop if the connection is lost, iOS ends the background task or the app is force-quit; they do not resume automatically after the app terminates. If a download destination is unavailable, choose it again in Settings or return to the default folder.

A failed or cancelled upload normally removes its temporary remote file. If cleanup cannot finish, the error shows the temporary path so you can remove it from the server. Your original local file is preserved.

iCloud sync

Use the same Apple Account on your devices and allow Prompt22 to use iCloud. Hosts, folders, trusted host keys and snippets sync through iCloud; SSH identities marked for sync use iCloud Keychain. Check both iCloud Drive and Passwords & Keychain settings if one kind of information syncs but the other does not. Sync may take time and requires network access.

Open sessions and terminal history remain on each device. Downloads follow the location you chose: a file saved to iCloud Drive may sync through Files, while one saved locally stays on that device.
